Just started off 2014 by finishing this book! Here's the blurb and what I think about the book:
The Summer I Found You
Jolene Perry's THE SUMMER I FOUND YOU, about a teenage girl trying to cope with her new diagnosis of type one diabetes and a teenage male veteran who is learning how to embrace his new life after losing an arm, who come together by using each other as an escape, only to discover through love and struggle that your life is what you make of it.
Ok, so first of all, I really liked this book. Granted it's called the Summer I Found you, and it's set in Spring, but whatever. I can over look that and the few grammatical errors that I saw because of what the story was about! I will try to give a better break down without giving too much away.
Kate is a 17 almost 18 year old girl who just had her boyfriend over more than a year break up with her right before their senior prom. Then he starts dating someone else right after that and doesn't try to hide it from her at all. To top that off she is still trying to deal with having Type 1 Diabetes. But her way of thinking is going to end up getting her killed
Aiden is a 19 year old Army vet who is trying to deal with the loss of his arm, the loss of a friend, his job, and everything that he wanted. But he can't fully process everything because he is trying to avoid doing the hard stuff.
Kate meets Aiden because he is her best friend's cousin. Aiden is roped into going to a high school outing with Kate so she wouldn't be by herself. Kate doesn't avoid his missing arm, which is something he isn't use to, but she doesn't tell him about her own issues. She just wants one person to look at her for something other than her disease.
What starts out as using each other for a distraction turns into something more. But how long can Kate keep her secret from Aiden? How long can either of them avoid their pasts? When things get heated will her secret bring them closer together or drive them apart? And will Aiden ever get over his survivor guilt and do what he knows needs to be done? Go pre-order this book and find out for yourself
