Review of Marry Me for Money by Mia Kayla

OK so I picked up this book today because it was a freebie that I noticed on Facebook and the blurb had me interested. It’s not often that you get to read about someone only getting married to pay off debt. Or at least the books that I read very rarely have that. But I thought why the heck not? And I am super glad that I did.

Synopsis:

Leaving her small town behind, Bethany Casse moves to Chicago in search of a new life. Working at a top financial bank brings her into contact with two men who are as different as night and day.

Kent Plack, heir to Plack Industries, has no interest in being with a woman for longer than one night. A spoiled and lazy man-whore, he is completely content with his playboy lifestyle, and Beth is surprised when they form an unlikely friendship.

Brian Burcham, a finance banker, is gorgeous and respectful. A man plucked from Beth’s dreams, he is definite husband material. Unfortunately, Beth has a hard rule against dating coworkers, but Brian is determined to change her mind.

When a deadbeat mother and money problems follow her to Chicago, Beth is offered a solution that could fix everything. Marrying for money seems simple enough, but when lines become blurred, Beth faces difficult choices, making her realize that the easy way out just made her life even harder than before.

*Due to descriptive sexual situations and mature themes, this novel is not intended for readers under the age of 18.*

Author Bio:

Mia Kayla is a New Adult/Contemporary Romance writer who lives in Illinois. She is wifey to the husband of the year and mommy to three unbelievable cute little girls who have multiplied her grey hairs.

In her free time she loves reading romance novels, jamming to boy bands, catching up on celebrity gossip and designing flowers for weddings.

Most of the time, she can be caught on the train with her nose in a book sporting a cheeky grin because the main characters finally get their happily-ever-after at the end.

She loves reading about happy endings but has more fun writing them.

Teaser:

“This night didn’t turn out like I’d planned,” he said, running his fingers through my hair. ‘It was supposed to be romance, candlelight, and dinner first.”

I lifted my head to look at him and raised my eyebrows.

“I wanted to give you the movie version.”

“Oh,” I said realization setting in. “Well, this is much better than the movie version. If this were the movies, I’d be watching the love story happen on the screen. In this version, the good stuff happens to me” I said resting my chin on his chest,

He peered down at me and brushed a strand of hair away from my face. ‘Yeah, this is so much better than the movies.” He kissed me long and hard until I forgot my name, forgot where I was, and even forgot how to breathe. “Here,” he breathed, “I get the girl.”

I felt his length harden below me against my stomach. I guessed if this were our movie, part two was going to start real soon.

Review:

This book is set in Chicago, IL and is about Beth moving there and starting a job fresh from college while trying to put her past behind her. During one of her first days on the job she meets playboy Kent who is the heir to one of the plant companies her employers are in business with. While she finds his gorgeous and has an immediate attraction to him, his lack of drive and ambition turns her off greatly. So when he offers to take her on a tour of one of the plant sites, he surprises not only his father but Beth as well.

This trip is the start of an interesting friendship that Beth comes to depend on just as much as her best friend back home. He is the one she turns to when she is trying to get advice about dating a coworker and he is the one she gushes to when she wants to talk about her dates. So when it turns out that Kent needs her help with something, and offers to pay off her debt, she does it with little hesitation. What she didn’t count on was not only falling for her best friend but also his family.  How is she supposed to survive this if things end badly?

I really enjoyed reading this book. I had a lot of problems putting it down once I got started. I let my housework for the day go unattended and only put it down when needing to focus on my kids, and was still able to get the whole thing read in less than 12 hours. I would totally recommend this book to my friends and will be telling them about it asap, not only in my blog, but in person as well. I can’t wait to see if Mia has any other books out there, and if she does I am going to get started on them immediately!

Deception by K.A. Robinson Cover Reveal!

Description:

Please note: This isn’t your typical love story. Things are messy. Characters aren’t always what they appear to be. Wrong decisions are made. If you’re not a fan of the darker side of love, this might not be the book for you. Read at your own risk.

I’m strong—or at least, I want to be. I try to be. Oh, how I’ve tried.
But life screwed me over. When I was at my weakest and lowest, desperate and alone, he found me.
Robert changed everything. He gave me everything.
He was every woman’s dream—rich, powerful, and charming. He made me forget the fact that he’s twenty-four years my senior.
He made me feel alive, and for the first time in my life, I was content.
Until I met Cooper—his son.
And Robert? He began to change.
I’m despicable. I know I am. I’m ashamed of what I want.

Things are never what they seem.

Greed.
Lust.
Lies.
Murder.

Deception.

Chapter One is available on K.A. Robinson's blog now. You can read it here!

Also, here is a teaser! (The very first one!) This is completely unedited!

I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I whispered as I took a step back. My back hit the wall, but he continued to step closer. He stopped right in front of me and rested his hands on the wall next to my head so that he caged me in.

“You’re a terrible liar, Claire. Even now, you want me. Your pupils are dilated and your breathing is uneven. You know what I can do and you want it. You want to be the one on my bed with my head buried between your legs.” He leaned closer so that his lips touched my ear. “All you have to do is ask. I promise you’ll be screaming when I’m done with you.”

Darkness of Light (Book 1)

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo.

Ember Brycin has been called them all. She’s always known she’s different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her.

When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who’s hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets. Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is—leading her down a path she never imagined possible.

Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren’t always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she’ll definitely wish she could.

Fire in the Darkness (Book 2)

It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm (ECS) has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.

And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Beast in the Darkness (Eli Novellette)

*Meant to be read after Fire In The Darkness*

Beast In The Darkness (An Elighan Dragen Novelette)

We know the story from Ember's POV, but what happens to Eli after Ember disappears? Crawl inside Eli's mind and experience what he goes through. Be warned his mind in not a fuzzy warm place to be....

**Warning this contains sexual content and language.
**Contains Spoilers if you have not previously read Darkness Of Light or Fire In The Darkness.

Dwellers of Darkness (Book 3)

Some days feel like years, but in Ember Brycin’s case just the opposite is true. She had only been in the Otherworld for a day or two when she escaped with her mom, Kennedy, and Jared to the Earth realm. But it’s three years later on Earth. Em would be 22 now—if she was a human. But she’s not. She is a Dae—part Demon and part Fay—with a little Dark Dweller thrown in to make her even more of a freak.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is her undeniable connection to Eli Dragen, who is sexy, gorgeous, and even more frustrating. But her problems go way past him.

The Seelie Queen of the Otherworld still holds Mark, Em’s father, and her friends, Ryan, and Josh as hostages. Em needs to rescue them without, once again, getting caught and being used as a pawn to help the Queen regain possession of Earth. At the same time Lars, the Unseelie King, reminds Em she is bound to him and has to locate the Sword of Light to fulfill the prophesy and kill the Queen.

As the tension for war mounts between the Seelie and Unseelie (Light and Dark), the tension at the Dark Dweller’s compound mounts even more as they prepare to obtain the sword no matter what the price. But is Ember the answer to the location of the sword? Is she the one to fulfill the prophecy? As usual nothing is ever what it seems.

Author Bio
Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal Fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing.  She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.

When she’s not writing she’s out hiking, spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music, or designing.
